The E-Reader is a peripheral device for the Game Boy Advance that allowed players to scan special trading cards to unlock extra content in compatible games. Some GBA games, such as "Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire" and "Animal Crossing," used the E-Reader to offer new items, mini-games, or even entire levels that couldn't be accessed otherwise. The E-Reader was only released in Japan, North America, and Europe and was discontinued in 2004.
